Sound on · Level 3 · Sudden scares

Blue hour at Bellwether Lake. The last light on the water.

A short escape from everything

Stay a littlelonger.

Somewhere quiet. Nothing to do.
Just watch for a moment.

The night shift

Start with the kind of bad idea you want.

Six departments are open. The front desk can explain the difference without pretending any of them are sensible.

Wrong Picture

A nice photo. Something in it is wrong.

A meadow, a kitchen, a family holiday. Find the wrong thing before it finishes noticing you.

All departments

It's not only jump scares.

The jump is the cheap one, and we do it very well. The other five take their time, hide in plain sight, or make the problem someone else's.

Tonight's docket

Fresh paperwork. Old problems.

The daily file changes at midnight UTC. The archive does not change at all, which has failed to make it less concerning.

Your call

Pick how bad it gets.

Nobody gets ambushed here. You choose the ceiling before anything starts, and you can drop it — or switch scares off entirely — at any point without losing your place.

Standard

The lake. The wait. The face.

This also sets the lake above. Level 5 is not a joke and you can leave at any time with Esc.

Before you ask

Questions people send us at 2 a.m.

Mostly about whether it is safe, whether it is real, and whether you can do it to someone else.

What is Nightmare Project?

A collection of things that look calm and then stop being calm. Videos, pictures and feeds that spend most of their time being genuinely pleasant, with something wrong hidden somewhere inside them.

Is it actually scary?

That's the intent. The jump scares are loud and close, and the quieter modes are built to leave you watching the edge of the frame long after nothing has happened. You choose how far it goes on a scale of one to five.

Can I turn the jump scares off?

Yes. Sound and scares each have their own switch at the top of every page, your choice is remembered between visits, and Esc stops anything already running. Nothing ever plays on its own — a scare only starts when you press something.

Can I send a jump scare to a friend?

That's the Send It mode. You make a calm-scene link, send it to someone, and keep a private report page showing when it opened and when the scare landed. No account or email address is required.

Does it use my camera or microphone?

No. Nightmare Project never requests camera or microphone access, and there is no reaction recording of any kind.

Is it safe if I have epilepsy or a heart condition?

The scares include sudden flashing images and loud audio, so we don't recommend it if you are photosensitive or have a heart condition. Switching scares off leaves the calm footage intact, and reduced-motion settings are respected automatically.

Some fears should be shared responsibly.

Make a calm-scene link, choose the place and intensity, then keep a private report of what happened. No accounts, no personal tracking, and the recipient can retire the link themselves.
